Emotional Growth Tools
Have you ever experienced one of these moments?
Someone shares with you that you hurt their feelings and you stop being able to hear them and get defensive?
You receive an email from your boss wanting a meeting with you and immediately your heart starts racing and think the worst?
When you're feeling worried about someone or something you just want to be alone, sleep or distract yourself with work or TV?
When I work clients I encourage them to engage in emotional growth practices of their choosing because I've seen over and over again how practices help us remain steady during the process of change and transformation.
No matter how solid our emotional growth practice is, sometimes strong emotional triggers come up and we need tools and techniques to work thought them.
An emotional trigger is our internal reaction to a person, place, thing, situation or thought outside of us.
That strong physical and emotional reactivity can include:
Anxiety, stomach upset, pounding heart, shakiness, sweating, feeling cold or hot, feeling numb, feeling angry or charged, or just simply uncomfortable.
Common experiences that often facilitate an emotional trigger include:
rejection
betrayal
unjust treatment
challenged beliefs
helplessness or loss of control
being excluded or ignored
disapproval or criticism
feeling unwanted or unneeded
feeling smothered or too needed
insecurity
loss of independence
Emotional triggers are a part of the human experience but they also have the potential to they leave a trail of wreckage in their wake.
The good news, with self-understanding, care, attention and an emotional safety plan, emotional triggers can be one of our BIGGEST gifts for emotional growth and healing ever.

We hold our deepest needs in the most tender places in our hearts. Our needs can be expressed in functional and dysfunctional ways when we're triggered through different aspects of ourselves. These aspects comprise an emotional landscape called your Inner Family and they are here to help us get our needs met. In this session, meet your Inner Family and learn tools and techniques to work with getting their needs met.
Session 5: The Emotional Safety Plan
An emotional trigger is the ultimate signal that something (usually trauma) is unresolved in you. Neutralizing the trauma under the trigger is the goal. You'll take everything you learned in this workshop and design a personalized plan with tools and trigger processing techniques that work for you for processing emotional triggers and navigating high stress situations.
